• The Impacts

    LAB-GROWN

    - Uses significantly less energy

    - Minimal environmental and community impact

    MINED

    - Leads to soil erosion and land displacement

    - Drives deforestation and ecosystem damage

  • Quality

    LAB-GROWN

    - Chemically and physically identical to mined stones,

    - Graded by the same 4Cs of quality: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight by IGI / GIA

    MINED

    - Offering the same quality

    - Involving processes that disrupt ecosystems and harm the environment.

  • Affordability

    LAB-GROWN

    - More affordable, with equal or often better quality than mined diamonds—at a lower cost.

    MINED

    - The high cost of mined diamonds is driven by perceived rarity, the challenges of extraction, and strategic marketing.

What is Lab-Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds—both made of pure carbon under high heat and pressure. The only difference is their origin: mined deep within the Earth or created in a lab using advanced methods like HPHT and CVD. With rapid advances in technology, lab-grown diamonds have become a true alternative to natural ones, without the misconceptions often surrounding them.

The Difference

Lab-grown diamonds share the same sparkle, strength, and composition as natural diamonds, but with key advantages. Instead of taking billions of years to form deep in the Earth, they’re created in weeks with advanced technology—making them more sustainable, conflict-free, and far more affordable. Natural diamonds remain rare, but lab-grown diamonds offer the same brilliance with a modern, ethical edge.

A Smart Kind of Luxury

Today, environmental and ethical concerns play a big role in choosing diamonds. Mined diamonds cause land disruption, deforestation, and habitat loss, while lab-grown diamonds use less water and energy, producing far less waste.

Mined diamonds emit 144–250 kg of CO₂ per carat, while lab-grown diamonds with renewable energy can be as low as 0.03 kg—over 5,000 times less. Even with less efficient methods, they use 60–80% fewer emissions, offering the same brilliance with a far lighter footprint.”

FAQs

Are Lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

A lab-grown diamond is a manufactured diamond produced in a controlled laboratory environment. These diamonds are 100% real and are physically, chemically, and optically identical to a natural diamond.

At Diamonbliss, we’re proud to offer IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds, ensuring reliable quality and excellent artistry.

Can you tell the difference between lab grown diamonds and mined diamonds?

Without special equipment, they are essentially indistinguishable from their natural counterparts by the naked eye. The only real difference between the two is their origin: one is mined, and the other is created using advanced technology.

Is it more ethical to buy lab grown diamonds or natural diamonds?

Lab-Grown diamonds are more ethical because they avoid environmental and social issues that generally come at the cost of mined diamonds. While mined diamonds can be sourced ethically, synthetic diamonds eliminate large mining operations, mitigating environmental impacts such as deforestation or water pollution.

Are Lab Grown Diamonds cheaper than mined diamonds?

Because lab grown diamonds are man-made, they require less resources and people to create than mined diamonds, making them 20-30% cheaper than their natural counterpart.

Are lab-grown diamonds weaker than natural diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds share the exact chemical composition as natural diamonds. With carbon atoms arranged in the same crystal structure, they match in hardness, brilliance, and every physical property.
